EVENTI

'Palimpsest' is a term that today we are used to linking mainly to television or radio programming, but it is actually an ancient Greek word that originated in the world of manuscripts. In fact, it indicates those manuscripts that, for various reasons, mainly practical and economic, were reused by replacing the original writing - suitably erased - with new content. Several works of classical antiquity have survived only in this form, and in an attempt to recover them, irreparable damage was done to this type of document in the past, through aggressive and irreversible chemical treatments. Today, fortunately, we have new technological means that allow us to protect the palimpsests and unlock their secrets without causing them further damage. This thematic visit will allow us to discover more details about this particular type of text, starting with some very precious palimpsests conserved in the Capitolare, as well as access to the laboratory to see the multispectral survey equipment up close and better understand how it works.
